About Naturopathy
Naturopathy is a system of health care which encourages and promotes the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms using a varied and personalised approach. The spectrum of therapies applied by a Naturopathic practitioner include Nutrition, Lifestyle advice and Herbal Medicine.
The principles of Naturopathy include:
- Provide the body with the right environment and conditions to self-heal
- Each individual responds in a different way.
- The root (underlying) causes of the health concern are identified and treated. Root causes can include physical factors, such as digestive imbalances or nutritional deficiencies, and also emotional factors such as stress, anxiety or trauma.
- Prevention is preferable to cure.
Herbal Remedies
Herbal medicines have active constituents and properties that can support the body’s natural processes. For example:
- Dandelion Root, Burdock Root and Milk Thistle can support the liver in metabolising food and eliminating waste from the body. This may help enhance overall health, including improving skin conditions and balancing hormones.
- Aromatic herbs like Fennel, Cardamon and Peppermint can support good digestion and absorption, and may settle digestive discomfort.
- Echinacea, Elderberry and Thyme are examples of commonly used herbs that can support good immune function.
- Herbs like Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Oatstraw and Skullcap can support the nervous system, particularly during times of stress, depletion or emotional overwhelm.
The primary aim of a herbal tonic provided at the clinic is to promote the relevant natural processes in the body and provide targeted health benefits as soon as possible. This can also provide support to help you make appropriate nutritional and lifestyle changes.
The main herbal remedies offered at the clinic are in the form of tinctures, typically with an adult dosage of up to a teaspoon (5ml) three times per day. Herbal oils can also be provided, which can benefit skin conditions or help increase circulation to a targeted area.
